About Us
Welcome to the CoMPASS Laboratory at the Iowa State University. Our group focuses on multidisciplinary problems ranging from multiscale additive manufacturing, high-speed machining to novel multifunctional lubricant development. We find solutions to the range of failure modes observed in various industrial equipment through both bulk material and surface modification routes. Our applications areas of interest include but are not limited to defence (i.e. crucial components in army, air force and navy vehicles), space (i.e. hardware and load bearing components), non-renewable energy (i.e. biomass handling equipment, nuclear reactor components and wind turbines), conventional energy (i.e. oil and gas drilling), automotive (i.e. gearbox, engine oil, rear axle oil), agriculture (i.e. crop harvesting), aerospace (i.e. superhydrophobic coating development and gearbox failure), tooling (i.e. additively manufactured tooling for stamping tool and dies) and biomedical (i.e. prosthetics, antimicrobial coating) systems.

Explore Exciting Opportunities at the CoMPASS Lab, ISU!
1. Postdoctoral researchers / Visiting scholars: Embark on a journey of collaboration and discovery. Reach out to Dr. Roy, sharing your rich research background and interests. If the stars align with funding and research synergies, expect an email for further dialogue.
2. Graduate students: We are actively seeking highly motivated Doctoral and Master's level students. If you're well-versed in physical metallurgy, has sound knowledge on process-microstructure-property relationships of additively manufactured metallic parts, or have research backgrounds in Tribology and/or Surface Engineering, you're the one we're looking for.
3. Undergraduate students: Ready to make an impact? We're on the lookout for dedicated undergraduates who thrive in independent projects and can bolster our graduate team's ongoing endeavors.
We look forward to hearing from you!
